This tradition is usually done the day after Thanksgiving, but this year we went the first weekend of December. And in the past, we usually go with several uncles a/o cousins, but this year we were only joined by Grandpa T. and our good friend John. We spent an hour in the mountains about a mile from our home finding the trees. We needed a skinny one, Grandpa wanted a short one, and John searched for a giant one. The boys had such a great time helping! This was John's first time going on a mountain tree hunt, and he was fun to watch. It was Kanyon's first year joining us in the hunt, too. He tagged along behind the rest of the boys, and since I was wearing non-traction boots (stupid new boots), I wasn't able to climb up the hillside like the rest of the boys. But we did come out with what we wanted, the pefect trees we had been seeking!!!
After we returned home, we warmed ourselves up with hot chocolate and warm sugar cookies decorated with little Christmas trees on them! I love the tradition of hunting for our Christmas tree, and I love the way the live tree creates a lovely pine aroma throughout the entire house. No matter what Christmas decorations I have put out, it doesn't feel like the holiday season is officially here until the Christmas tree is up and decorated. I chose blue lights and blue, white, and silver ornaments this year to adorn it. The boys loved it! And so did I!
