2020 Goals Report

The LDS church came out with a new program to replace the existing youth programs, effective January 1, 2020. The new activities program is called "Children and Youth". The purpose behind it is for youth to strengthen their faith in Jesus Christ, and to help them progress in different areas of their life in order to meet today's challenges. It is based upon this scripture: "Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man" (Luke 2:52). The objective is for youth to create a goal in each of these four areas: Intellectual, Physical, Spiritual, and Social, and to constantly be striving to attain their goals. When one is accomplished, a new one can be set. We already made goals as a family each year, so this new program aligns perfectly with our family's tradition.

At the beginning of January, we examined our goals from last year, and made new goals for the new year in each of the four categories.

New Years

Josh and I went to Quinn's Hot Springs in Montana for a getaway right before New Years. Neither of us had been there before. We stayed 2 nights in the lodge, which was AMAZINGLY comfortable! Our lodge was right by the river, and it had all the amenities: satellite TV, internet, an amazing shower, a comfortable king bed, and a small kitchenette. They have two restaurants on site: one more upscale, and other was more casual. We ate at both while we were there, and the food was delicious! We loved the set up of the hot pools, too: there was 6 pools next to each other, with short walls in between each, and the pools were all varying in their temperature. They were building new pools right next to them too, so there will be even more the next time we go. We absolutely loved the experience, and hope to make this an annual tradition!

Josh ordered the Prime Rib the first night.

I had the meatloaf. It was divine!

We soaked the first night after dinner. It was so pretty!

Our lodge room... I loved it SO much!

On Day 2, we lounged around all morning and then
soaked in the afternoon. There wasn't many people
soaking at that time, which was nice!

On the second night, we ordered hamburgers

On Day 3 (New Years Eve day), we soaked
in the morning before checking out.

We loved the location of it!!

The lodge was so inviting! I didn't want to leave!

We drove through St. Regis on our way home, and the snow was thick!

When we got home from our Quinns' Hot Springs getaway, we got ready to host a New Years party for a bunch of teenagers. Since there was no church youth activity on New Years this year, and Josh's parents didn't host a family get-together (for the first time in our marriage!) to play the radio trivia game (since Cope retired from doing it), we decided to have a party at our place for Jonah and Micah's friends. I cooked a bunch of appetizers and baked several goodies, and the boys helped clean the house. The party started at 7:00. As the kids kept coming, they spread themselves out into the open spaces in our house: some played the Wii in the family room, some played the Xbox in the living room, and some played board games and card games in the dining room. At one point, we had over 25 kids in our house!! Some of them left at 10pm to go watch the free movies at the theater for the Drug Free Youth activity, and some went driving around, but the majority stayed. At midnight, we lit sparklers and fireworks from what we had leftover from July 4th. I ended the party at 12:30, kicking out the last few stragglers. Overall, it was a success, and it was fun for me to have so many kids at our house!

Anthony was our first guest!

Happy New Year! Here's hoping that 2021 is better than 2020!!!
