Kanyon Turned Twelve

Kanyon turned 12 on February 10. He'd been looking forward to this birthday so that he could graduate from primary and advance into Young Men's, but then the First Presidency changed the age minimum to advance into Young Men's in January of the year that they turned 12, so he was already going to Young Men's for over a month before his birthday happened! We had a family dinner for him on the evening of his birthday (which thankfully was Sunday, so we were home in Salmon for it). He requested cream corn and roast, and we made mashed potatoes and gravy with it, too.

After dinner, he opened gifts from me and Josh, and both sets of grandparents.

He really wanted another controller for the PS4.
He got the PS4 for his birthday last year, but it
only came with one controller, and he wanted to
be able to play on it with a friend!

He absolutely loves gummy bears right now! This
giant package of it was gone in just a couple of days!

His new gifts included more clothes, shoes, a book, some of his favorite snacks,
and a new jacket from Grandma P.

Whoops! We forgot to include the cash gift
from Grandma T in the first photo!

For dessert, he chose to have pumpkin bars. I didn't think, and I cut the bars up before we sang to him, so I just creatively problem-solved and put some of the cut-up squares into the shape of "12", and put candles in the squares. Crisis averted! ;)

This year, it was his turn to have a friend party. We took two of his best friends from West J to Blast Off in Idaho Falls after school the following Tuesday afternoon. Neither Jackson nor Ryker had been there before, and it was pretty slow that afternoon, so it was the perfect place and time to go! For two hours, they had so much fun playing laser tag a few times, playing miniature golf twice, rock climbing, racing through the playground, and competing on arcades to get prizes. I took them to dinner at KFC afterwards. Watching and listening to Kanyon hang out with, talk, and tease with his friends was fun for me. We all had enjoyable time for his birthday festivities!

Some of his favorites at the age of 12:
Color: turquoise
Food: ice cream and dad's T-bone steak
TV Show: SpongeBob SquarePants and Bob's Burgers
Games: GTA5 and Settlers of Catan
Sport: golf
School Subject: Math and P.E.
Activities: videogames, youtube videos, and playing with friends
Friends: Aidan and Abby in Salmon, Jackson and Ryker in West J
