Honors, Honorables, and Honorees

Jonah and Micah were both inducted into the National Honors Society at the beginning of November. They had a nice dinner and some of the students talked, and all the members of this chapter read their pledge together at the ceremony. The twins were the only new senior boys inducted in this year: the rest were junior girls!

The XC Banquet was held about a week later. The male and female athletes from the middle school and high school teams were all recognized that night. The high schoolers received their letter, pin, or bars, depending on how long they'd done the sport, the state team members received their certificates, and then special awards were given. It was a bittersweet night, knowing it was the last one we'd go to for the sport! The boys' team also recognized their Coach Nick afterwards, who's been their coach since they were in 6th grade. They didn't know it at the time, but this was Coach Nick's last year coaching XC. We are so grateful for his continued support of the program and the consistent coaches the boys had throughout their XC career!

Micah was nominated for the Kids Matter Award sponsored by the Post Register. The nominations were open for students from 1st to 12th grade in Eastern Idaho, and recipients were chosen based on certain qualifications: having a positive impact on peers, inspiring others to do great things, being involved in and helping to improve the community, and being a great example to others. There were 18 honorees chosen, and Micah was one of them! There was a red carpet ceremony held at Hillcrest High School in Ammon on November 29, a few days after Thanksgiving. Micah was recognized for being kind and serving others in our community. He writes notes to children, members of the community, people in his church congregation, and coworkers. He sends notes to people who he feels needs positive words, who may feel lonely, or who are experiencing bad days. He inspires people to be kind through his quiet deeds of service. He received a medal at the ceremony and a large balloon bouquet. He was also featured in a special edition of the Post Register. It was such a cool event, and I'm so proud of Micah for all he chooses to do to make the world a better place and I'm glad he was publicly recognized for all his efforts!

Reiny Whittaker from Leadore was also
an honoree. Micah knew her from Trek.
