Jonah and Micah were born in September. As of September 1, they were still 4 years old. This means, in big boy terms, that they can't go to Kindergarten for another whole year. This means, in big boy terms, that they will go to their 3rd year of preschool! I had to explain this concept to them ALL summer long!
For the last 2 years, they have gone to the C.D.C.(Child Development Center run by the State Educational System). They qualifed because of their delayed speech, one of the side effects they have had from their prematurity. They loved going there and they have really advanced socially and with their speech because of their great teachers and the program there! But this year, they started going to HeadStart, a federally-run preschool.
They were so nervous about going to a new school. For the last 3 weeks, they have been insistent that they didn't want to go, and Micah especially (he has a hard time with change of any kind). I took them with me to Orientation last week, and surprise surprise, they actually had a great time! They started school on Monday, Sept. 8, and go 4 mornings a week: Monday through Thursday. There are 18 children in their class, 12 boys and 6 girls. And so far, they have liked the food and playing outside on bikes. Their best friends from preschool last year, Tanner and Leah and Bradley, all went to Kindergarten this year. Jonah and Micah were also nervous about not knowing any of the other kids. But they have made a new best friend already, another little boy named Jonah.
They are a pro at the preschool thing now. They are better behaved and can listen & obey rules and understand routines. By Kindergarten next year, they will be more than ready!
