Raining cats and... Dragons

Josh and I usually go on a couple's trip every February (to celebrate our anniversary of being together), but this year we didn't have plans to go for various reasons. So, Josh surprised me with an overnight trip to Boise on February 8. He had purchased tickets for us to see the rock band Imagine Dragons in concert, and he'd reserved a hotel room, too. I was truly surprised and ecstatic that he planned this whole mini-getaway trip!

I've been in love with the song "Demons" by Imagine Dragons for a while now. Every time it comes on the radio, I proclaim "I LOOOVE this song!". Josh was beginning to really like the songs he heard from their group, too, (like "Radioactive") so when he discovered they were having a concert in Boise, he didn't want to pass up the chance to go.

We left Salmon on Saturday mid-morning, and drove the long way to Boise, because the Banner Summit road was closed. It took forever--over 5 hours! It was cold, rainy, and windy the whole car ride--which was kind of depressing.

When we arrived in Boise, we checked into our hotel room at the Inn America. Then we went shopping for a few essentials, ate dinner at Fuddrucker's, and headed towards the Taco Bell Arena where the concert was. It was 6:00 at this time and the concert started at 7:00. The Taco Bell Arena is right next to the BSU Football stadium, and when we made it to that part of town, we had to sit through 5 stop lights before we could turn onto the road that accesses the parking lots. Then we parked the car, and walked the great distance to the basketball stadium. It was cold and rainy, and when we reached the stadium by foot, there was a very long line. We waited outside in the rain for over 45 minutes. It was extremely miserable. We were cold and wet, and tired of waiting so long. We'd never experienced a concert where the outside line took so long to get inside. When we go to concerts in SLC, there's machines inside the doors that you walk through to check for weapons, but at this concert, there was no machine--instead there was a guy wanding everybody, and it was very time-consuming. By the time we made it inside, it was 7:15, and the pre-show had already started. I was so irritated at the disorganization of this event. When we made it to the top level where our seats were, there was no bathroom. So after the 1st cover band played, I went down to a lower level and got in a long line (again) to use the bathroom. The lady in front of me told me how she had to wait 45 minutes in her car before she could park because the parking attendants ran out of small cash. She was equally as irritated as me about the disorganization! After using the bathroom, I went back up to the top level, and found that Josh had purchased us some sugar-coated, baked nuts. They were so good! And slowly, I began to warm up (both inside and out) and enjoy the rest of the evening that he had surprised me with!

Although we decided we would never go to this venue for a concert again, the concert itself was awesome! The Imagine Dragons were excellent performers! They are talented and presented their music without a lot of extra wows like some other concerts we've been to. There was no fire explosions, or detailed videos presented, or decorative backdrops, or extra costumes or props. Instead, they just sang their hearts out, and the audience ate it all up!

During the song "I'm On Top of The World", they released a whole bunch of blown-up balls filled with confetti that the audience bounced around until they got popped. That was one of my favorite songs they performed that night!

I was mesmerized watching the whole band perform--they all played multiple instruments (in the photo below they are all playing different drums), and worked very well together. They never took a break, and were all onstage together the whole time. It was a fabulous show, and I'm so glad that Josh made it possible for us to go! I sure love that man of mine!
