Summer Fun

This summer we participated in two of the many summer programs available in Salmon. In addition to swimming lessons, the boys were also involved with the Library Summer Reading Program and the Art in the Park/Free Lunch days.

For many years now, we've participated in the Library Summer Reading Program. The kids sign up in June to see how many books they think they can read before the end of July, and they earn prizes as they read books and try to make their goal. The boys all made their reading goals, and earned prizes and free ice cream cones and free swimming passes. And every Tuesday in July, there's an activity day at the library for families to come to for 2 hours and do fun things together regarding the year's theme. There was always story time, crafts, games, and snacks. I took the younger 3 boys to it each week and they had a good time! Ammon participated in the goal reading, but felt like he was too old for the juvenile activities, and since his golf lessons were usually during that time, I dropped him off to go golfing instead. The theme for the Library's activities this summer was "Around the World".

Kanyon coloring a nation's flag: (He colors in the most unique way: he tilts his head up, closes his eyes, and starts randomly moving his hand with the coloring utensil back and forth over the paper.)

One week, they had large cut-outs to have your picture taken in:

The "Art in the Park/Free Lunch" days were held once a month at the park. We missed the August one because we were out of town, but we went to the ones in June and July. Again, Ammon went golfing instead because he thought he was too old for the activities, but I took the 3 younger boys to them, and they absolutely loved crafting for a couple of hours each time! In June, they made animal masks, window hangings, painted pictures, and colored bracelets. In July, there were a lot less people that came, so since it wasn't very crowded, we did twice as much! They made colored masks, beaded necklaces, sand bracelets, sand keychains, marshmallow structures, window hangings, and painted pictures!
