The annual petticoat trim

Our dog Tiki gets her hair cut once a year in June. It grows long and thick in the winter, and by the end of May, she starts shedding the long tan hairs. It's gross to pet her and then realize your hand is covered in hair afterwards. It's at that point that I usually call the animal hairstylist to make an appointment.

We've had one company in town do the job the last two years, but last year, the stylist cut Tiki's hair so short that she looked like she got a military buzz cut. She looked so strange, and she felt embarrassed--she hid a lot and looked so sad. It was so bad, our cat wouldn't even come around her for weeks because it didn't recognize her! I didn't even take a picture of the terrible cut, because I felt so bad for her. So this year, we tried a different stylist, and were very happy with the results!

Tiki grows a white "petticoat" on her rear end. In the spring it is so long that it gets curly, and when she walks, the long white hairs sway from side to side, and it really looks like she's got a bustle on! It's so funny to see her strut her petticoat!

After her hair is cut, she looks so much younger and thinner! It always surprises me how much different she looks after her annual cut!

And this time, our cat Torch (which is Tiki's little friend) recognized her, so thankfully she wasn't embarrassed or sad like she was after last year's traumatizing haircut!

Now I have to wait until next year to see her shaking her long white petticoat around again!!!
