some R & R (relaxing and running!)

The first weekend of October we went camping at Challis Hot Springs. Because it was General Conference weekend, some of the people from our ward were there, too. It was busy at the campground because they were hosting a Cross Country running meet on Saturday afternoon, so several families were camping there to support the student athletes (including us). We stayed overnight on Friday, and it was such beautiful weather both days for us. After arriving and setting up camp on Friday, we ate dinner then went for an evening soak in the hot springs. Then we sat around the campfire for a while and cousin Ellie (who was also camping with her family) joined us for a while. The evening soak really made our bodies feel good, and we ALL slept so great that night!

The next morning, we cooked breakfast over the morning campfire (waffles in the pie iron), and decided to go for a morning soak again (except for Ammon who didn't want his energy to be drained prior to his race).

We had to be out of our camping spot by noon, which is when the races began. So Josh pulled the trailer to a big parking area, then went to talk to Ammon by his race team as I made lunch for the 3 younger boys.

The middle school girls race was first, and then it was time for the middle school boys race. Our middle school had a full team of 5 boys this year!

The Challis XC course is very spectator-friendly, and is also challenging for the runners. It's an awesome course! There's a spot where they have to run through some water: (see Jonah and Kanyon on the right side waiting for the runners to appear?)

There's a spot where they have to run up and down the side of the mountain:

And the majority of the course is weaving around grassy sections of the campgrounds:

Josh's parents drove down to Challis that morning to watch Ammon run the race, too. You can see Josh & Edward rooting Ammon on here:

Ammon ran a really great race and had a 3rd place finish! After the middle school boys race, we watched the high school girls and boys races. Kanyon was bored of watching, so he made a friend and played "stick people" with him until it was time for the awards.

Medals were given to the top 20 runners in each category. This is the top 20 middle school boys: Ammon was 3rd place and is 2nd from right, his teammate McClay got 2nd and is on the far right, and the first place runner is on the far left.

After the awards were all done, we headed back to our trailer and got it all cleaned up and left to return home. It was a wonderful weekend! We always enjoy camping at Challis Hot Springs!
