Sand & Sun at Stanley Lake

Our third {and final} family vacation of the summer was camping to Stanley Lake the first week of August. Sadly, we were unable to go last year and we really missed it! It's one of our favorite camping places, and Ammon requested we please go there this summer--since it was his last summer at home, we were happy to fulfill his request! We met up with Josh's best friend Ryan there. Josh's cousin (and Ryan's wife) Heidi unfortunately wasn't able to come this year due to work obligations, but Ryan brought their daughter Ayla and their niece (and our cousin) Lexi. We camped near Stanley Lake and spent two days hanging out there on the beautiful beach. It wasn't as busy this year, which was wonderful, and the weather was gorgeous, too! On our last day before we headed back to Salmon, we stopped at Redfish Lake. It was more crowded, but the lake is very shallow on one end, which was nice for the kids to relax in.

Ammon brought his own car, while the rest of us drove in the truck carrying the trailer. He worked later on Monday morning, and left an hour or so after us. I'd given him general instructions where our camping spot would probably be, but the area doesn't have cell phone coverage. We weren't at an official campground, and he couldn't find us! Miraculously, Josh got a text from him and went out to the road to meet him after he'd already been looking and driving around for 20+ minutes. Ammon was only able to spend the first night with us, because he didn't want to miss Men's Golf League on Tuesday night. He left the afternoon of our second day.

Josh and Ryan took turns cooking dinners and breakfasts during our stay. The tricky part about that was there was a fire ban, which we didn't know was in effect until we arrived--no open fires were allowed, and no coals for dutch ovens either. Unfortunately, both our dinner and our breakfast menus depended on dutch oven cooking! We brainstormed and decided to use the camp chef. It worked good for our tinfoil dinner, but we had to get creative for the breakfast, and used different pans (only what we had on hand) to cook the bacon on because we don't have a flat grill that fits the camp chef. It was working until suddenly the bacon pan got bumped and all the bacon fell all over the ground. I picked up the bacon, put it all on the pan, and when I picked up the pan, I didn't realize it was scorching hot, and I dropped it all over again! I picked the bacon all up the second time, scrubbed them each in the sink individually, and he regrilled them all, but there was still dirt specked on the bacon. It was a disaster!!! Ryan's meals were delicious and flawless--which made it all the more embarrassing for us!!! We decided we are going to buy an official flat grill for the camp chef to avoid this happening again in the future! Cousin Weaton and his wife Clerissa came up to visit from Stanley one night to eat dinner and chat with us, which was fun as well!

We had so much fun playing in the sand, floating on the water, and relaxing in the serene mountain lakes and beautiful beaches! We enjoyed our last vacation immensely!
We took family photos the first day as soon as Ammon arrived!

We loved the shallow area at Redfish Lake!
