Week 40 (Homecoming Week)

{October 3 - 9}

I got back from my Denver trip late on Sunday night, and Josh left super early Monday morning (before 4am) to head to Twin Falls for his semi-annual Idaho Golf Course Superintendents Meetings. We barely crossed paths for only a few hours! Monday began the High School's festivities for Homecoming Week. The Buff Puff was at 7:00 on Monday. Ammon played on the Junior's team. I went and watched him--it was the first time I've EVER gone to a Buff Puff, and it was so much fun! Ammon's team won!! First, the Juniors played the Sophomores while the Seniors played against the Freshmen, then the Juniors and Seniors (who'd both won their first round of games) went head-to-head, and the Juniors outscored the Seniors 2 to 1. It was exciting!

On Tuesday, after his meetings ended, Josh played golf with some of the other Superintendents and Salesmen at the Blue Lakes Country Club.  He's played there before, and he really enjoys the views of playing golf in the canyon!  I helped Kanyon pick the balls off the Driving Range at the golf course in Salmon after school. It didn't take as long as usual, which was nice. Powder Puff was on Tuesday night. I didn't go watch, but Ammon went and supported Hannah, his girlfriend, who was playing.

On Wednesday, the dress-up day was Crazy Savage Day (they wore the school colors orange, black, and white). I thought Micah nailed it with his outfit! Wednesday evening was the Skits and Lip Syncs. Once again, I've NEVER gone to this activity before (Josh always does!), but Ammon was involved in both the Junior class's skit AND lip sync and I wanted to go and support him. It was a super fun event, and I'm so glad I did! The junior class's skit was about a restaurant where the waitress and crew sing and dance to a correlating song number whenever any of the customers ordered a specific food item. Their dance was highlighting all the sports' teams in their grade. I thought they did a great job. The teachers did a dance, highlighting songs and dances through the decades, and invited the whole crowd to join them at their conclusion. That was an awesome finale!

On Thursday, the high school Cross Country team traveled to Pocatello for the Bob Conley Invitational. Ammon had his best race time of the season that day: 18:21, and was in the top 3rd of the runners (it was a huge meet). He was feeling really good about his season and the course (it's the same course that the state meet will be at). There was also a home volleyball game that night, but the twins had their first scout court of honor at the same time, so we went to that instead (which was VERY poorly attended because it was not a good choice to schedule it on the same week as Homecoming!). They had to do the flag ceremony, and they earned several merit badges as a result of their work at scout camp and dedication throughout the summer. A school bonfire was at the conclusion of the volleyball game later that night, and Ammon was able to make it to the end of that when the bus (which Josh drove) arrived back in Salmon.

Friday was the Homecoming Parade down Main Street at 11:00, and the football game was against North Fremont that night. Jonah and Micah were on the XC team float, and Ammon was on the Junior class float. There was a tremendous amount of candy thrown out, and not a lot of child bystanders, so there was candy littering the streets after the parade was over! It was quite a sight!! We lost the football game that night (we don't have a very good team this year), which was sad, but we sat by the Jackson's, which made it more fun. However, we were hoping that Eli would win Homecoming King, but he didn't, which was disappointing. Jodee Bingham won queen, though, which was exciting!

Saturday morning, Ammon had a cross country altitude practice up Williams Creek Road. Then he had an all-day group date with Hannah for the Homecoming Dance that night. Josh took the twins to go practice shooting their rifles, in anticipation of hunting season opening next week. He leveled the twins' scopes before they left, but had some difficulty sighting in his own rifle during shooting practice, and ended up having a little accident with it, which broke the barrel and was a bit of a scare! While they were gone, Kanyon and I shucked the rest of the corn, and I processed it into freezer corn. Josh took me on a motorcycle ride that afternoon to the Amish store. I love going on rides with him! The trees were changing, the sky was beautiful, and we even passed an Amish wagon on the way!  We got some cheese and jerky, and some of their yummy fry pies, too. We met Ammon's group at the Sacajawea Center that evening to take pictures. They all looked so handsome/pretty, and they'd had a great time that day together! Ammon was with a wonderful group of kids, which I was so grateful for.  He spent the night at Eli's after their date ended. Josh and I went out with Darcy and Phil and Emmy for dinner at the Junkyard Bistro. We love spending time with them!
Gideon gave us a bag of concord grapes that
grew in their backyard, and I learned how to
process them into grape juice for the first time
in my life! It was quite the lengthy process, but
the juice was super delicious!

Ammon putting the corsage on Hannah's wrist.
I'd ordered it for him, and was annoyed when I discovered that
they had put the flowers in a horizontal, rather than a vertical,
arrangement. It fit awkwardly on her wrist as a result.

Pinning the corsage on!

What a handsome couple!

I love these two kiddos!
