Eagle, Birdie, Par, Bogey

These are all common terminologies in golf, and I didn't know what they even meant until years after Ammon was born. But he already understood them when he was young!

Ammon has been competitively playing golf since he was 8 years ago, and started playing on the golf course with his dad when he was 2. For years, he's been waiting to play on the high school golf team, and that desire finally came true this year! Last year, the team won the first state golf championship in our high school's history, and he was wishing he was a part of the team, then! Because of the state championship, it became a popular sport at our high school this year, but he was a golfer even before it became popular! For years, I've taken him alone to the golf tournaments in eastern Idaho, and all that effort and practice and work paid off this year when he joined the team! He was used to playing competitively, and golfing under pressure, and as a result, he didn't seem like he was just a Freshman when he was at tournaments, he played like an upper-classman. He was usually assigned the number 2 or number 3 position on the team, behind senior Tucker Hamilton and junior Blade Barney, and he almost always played accordingly. I got to go to 3 of his tournaments this year, and I liked watching him play (even when he wished I wasn't there!), and Josh went to almost all of them (as the bus driver for the team), and loved watching his son, too! The golf season lasted from mid-March to mid-May, and Ammon did very well throughout the season.

March 19 -  at Jefferson Hills in Rigby. Ammon scored 87, and tied for 2nd overall

April 2 - at Salmon Valley GC (our home turf). Ammon scored 88, and tied for 2nd overall. The weather was so funky--it was sunny, windy, hailed, snowed, and rained the several hours we were on the course!

April 7 - at Sage Lakes in Idaho Falls. Ammon scored 47 and placed 3rd. The low score is a result of the weather; the tournament was cut short and most players only got 9 holes done (instead of 18).
The weather started out nice enough...

...but quickly turned very nasty.

April 16 - at Teton Lakes in Rexburg. Ammon scored 89, and tied for 7th. It was a bigger tournament with 6 schools-most of the other tournaments had just 4 schools.

April 22 - at Teton Lakes in Rexburg again. Ammon scored 85, and placed 20th. This was a huge tournament with 13 schools, larger schools, and harder competition.

April 27 - at Pinecrest in Idaho Falls. Ammon scored 90, and tied for 4th.

May 1 - at Mackay Golf Course. Ammon scored 84, and placed 4th. This was the only golf tournament that Josh couldn't go to. This is a smaller golf course, and Ammon didn't like it, and a lot of his teammates struggled on this course, too. But it was a beautiful day, and I enjoyed watching the golfers from our team!

May 4 - District Tournament at Pinecrest (again) in Idaho Falls. Ammon scored 89, and tied for 4th. It was a very competitive day: our boy's team tied for first, but in a playoff against Watersprings, we lost. Our girl's team got first place, too.

I thought it was funny how they dressed alike!

May 11-12 - State Tournament at Lewiston Golf Course. Ammon scored 87 on the first day, and 87 on the second day. He was compositely the best scorer for our team at State, Unfortunately our team didn't become repeat state champions, but there's always ghope for next year! ;)
The team got to practice on the course on the 10th. It was a very hilly course.

Congratulations Ammon on a successful first season with the high school golf team!
