Pumpkins on Parade

We entered a float again this year for our pumpkin patch in the Salmon River Days the weekend after July 4th. I worked on decorating the float the night before and morning of. I put the giant painted pumpkin (that is used for the corn bag toss at the patch) on the front of the flatbed trailer, then put 3 bales of hay in the center which served as seating AND a base for the pumpkin sign. I taped little cardboard pumpkin replicas on plastic containers, and lined them along the trailer edges, too. On Friday the 5th, we got dressed and ready to go--we all wore red/white/blue clothes and our bright orange hats! I drove a truck with the trailer to town, and finished the final touches on the float.

On the back end of the trailer, I put a sign that gave all the specifics about our pumpkin patch.

Cousin Brendan joined us on the float this year, and Josh pulled us down the street using a tractor again. The parade was disorganized this year in comparison to previous years, and the road we had to park and wait on was so chaotic and crazy because people didn't know where they were in the line-up and thus didn't know where to park. Thankfully, we were towards the beginning of the parade and we got in the correct spot. As we went along the parade route, we flipped out shaped elastic bands to the crowd again--this year I bought over 1,000 because last year I only ordered 500 and we ran out of them!

At the end of the parade on Main Street, the boys got off to stand by Brendan's family and his other cousins and they used their pumpkin buckets to catch candy from other parade floats! Josh and I kept driving, parked our float, and joined them a few minutes later.

It was a fairly long parade, and the boys were so happy that they got to catch so much candy--another bonus for us being near the beginning of the parade line-up. The only issue they have of being in the parade is that they don't get to be on the sidelines catching candy! Towards the end of the parade, the demolition derby cars came by--and the boys always look forward to seeing some of the cars that will be crashing in the derby the following night. It's an annual event that they look forward to all year long! This yellow & black car belonged to Brendan's cousin's family, and his sister Tanisha was riding in it, too.

Other than the stress of trying to make our way in the lineup before the parade began, the parade was a positive experience for our family this year! We had plenty of elastic bands leftover, the boys got to catch candy, our parade float stayed in tact, and we all had a great time!
