Spring 2011 Top Ten

Summer vacation is here!!! That means it's time to say goodbye to my Spring 2011 Top Ten List! Here's the recap:

1. Host a party for Malachi's missionary homecoming.
It was delightful to have friends and family over at our house one Sunday afternoon in March to celebrate Josh's younger brother's return from his mission to Portugal. We ate, chatted, and played games and a had a great time being together!

2. See Lady Gaga and Bon Jovi in concert!
It was such a treat for Josh and I to see both of these concerts in one week. They were very different from each other, but we enjoyed going to see both of them in concert!

3. Go on a mini-getaway for our anniversary!
We took a 4-day trip around Utah alone together at the end of March to celebrate our 13 years of marriage. It was absolutely wonderful (I will blog about it more later).

4. Celebrate Easter with the Perkins family.
We only went for one night this year, but we squeezed a lot of fun activities into a day! We all had a great time being with family and searching for eggs. Oh, and I found the silver egg [again]!!

5. Attend Jonah and Micah's spring musical performance.
The first graders had such a fun music program all about spring. Jonah talked about fishing, and Micah talked about bugs. They did a great job!

6. Listen to Ammon's band concert.
Ammon has done so well in band this year, and the 5th graders have really advanced in their skills. We enjoyed watching him play his trumpet at the spring concert.

7. Plant the garden.
We planted the garden in two rounds this year. The first round we planted all the vegetables: corn, cucumbers, radishes, potatoes, and carrots. The second round we planted all the pumpkins for our fall pumpkin patch: we planted 130 hills of pumpkin seeds!

8. Camp at Challis Hot Springs.
For the first time in 5 years, we did NOT go camping at Challis Hot Springs to start the camping season; we couldn't fit it into our weekend schedules due to conflicts. This is the only item on this list that wasn't completed. But one night in April, we went to a hotel with a waterpark in Missoula and we counted that as our overnight excursion instead. It was a blast!

9. Watch the flowers and trees bloom.
I have loved watching all the flowers bloom, and seeing our fruit trees blossom, and seeing others' trees and lilac bushes in the community in full splendor. It has been a beautiful spring!

 10. Fly kites.
The three younger boys tried out their kites a few windy afternoons in April, but we didn't have much luck with keeping them in the air. I think the problem was the kites themselves--next year I will buy better kites than the $1.00 kites sold at WalMart!
